Teresa Elenbaas in her studio

my process

Creating is a way of listening and responding to my heart. When I pick up a paintbrush and let my mind wander, questions, sorrows, longings and prayers have a way of gently surfacing. Many times I don’t know what I’ve kept in until I allow space for it to come out.

I recognize the familiar tension between freedom and control as I find my way in layers of paint and marks. Seeing glimpses of beauty emerge from the chaos whispers encouragement to surrender in the uncertainty. It feels like a promise. This isn’t the end of the story - even the broken parts are being woven into something more.

what brings me here

I’ve loved creating since I was young and that has stayed with me through the chapters of my life, though I had less time for it after becoming a mom. A few years ago, in the midst of a difficult season, I felt compelled to create and reconnected to painting in a new way. Since then, I’ve slowly made adjustments to give my art more time and attention because art helps me thrive.

Journaling is part of the process

Journaling is an important part of my process, helping me connect more deeply to my work.
